Raised over $700 to buy books the elementary school in El Sauce, Opatoro. The books are purchased from over ten different book stores in Tegucigalpa–Honduras’ capitol city. Because of the scarcity and expensiveness of books, 66 books are purchased, with a little money left over. Literally, there are no more children’s books available to be purchased in Spanish within the city that can be found.
The books are donated and presented to the community with parents and the teacher. Three students give speeches to their parents about why reading is important, and their favorite book. The electricity goes out, but students and parents are so anxious to see the books, that people run home for flashlights and stay another hour reading together after the meeting is over.
