Many people are just visiting Honduras for vacation, and find that bringing books instead of checked luggage is an easy and rewarding side project. Becky and Norris Burkes brought over 250 pounds of books for their Honduran vacation. They had collected from books donated family members and purchased at local thrift stores. Thanks to the military checked luggage allowance on United Airlines, veteran Norris Burkes was able to check their book donations for free.
They then spent several days volunteering in the same school where the books were presented, at Marcala Bilingual School. The couple also collaborated with Community Health Partnership-Honduras (CHPH) in bringing down a child from the country side to the surgery she needed in Siguatapeque.
