Access to books is the #1 factor in improving literacy rates and inspiring the next generation of readers and leaders in Honduras.
Why give to Chispa Project?
In Honduras, most kids have never even held a children’s book. Schools are poorly-funded and lacking in basic educational resources, and the average book costs over $20, making them a luxury few families can afford. Because of this, most kids read far below grade level, and even fewer develop functional literacy.
Your gift changes the story! With your support, we put books in the hands of kids by installing vibrant libraries in schools, and we educate teachers to maximize the use of the 1000 (or more!) diverse books in their inventory. Just one donation of $35 (to train a teacher) can inspire not only the 30+ kids they have in their classroom this year but the over 500 kids they’ll reach throughout their teaching career, meaning your gift is felt for years to come.

What's the issue?
2 out of 3 Honduran families live in extreme poverty.
Books in Honduras are rare and expensive averaging $20 a piece.
No children’s books in schools or homes.
Lack of access to books leads to incredibly low reading abilities, and high drop-out rates.
How do books help?
The most powerful and highest-impact way to improve reading achievement is to increase access to books.
Through school and classroom libraries, Chispa provides a holistic program that trains teachers, parents, and students to integrate literacy techniques in daily classes and home life.
