Maximizing Our Impact in 2025

Our team approached our 2025 projects with intentionality and reflection. We looked critically at the work we do, recognizing some incredible steps forward and some limiting factors to our progress. Based on our analysis, here are 3 exciting new developments to kick off 2025:

  • Surpassing 100 Libraries!: This year, Chispa Project will officially exceed 100 school libraries in Honduras, with 10 new installations planned (exceeding our previous goal due to the amazing support we received during the Next Chapter Campaign). As the country's largest NGO dedicated solely to children's literacy, our work is more critical than ever—especially with the uncertainty of USAID funding. Over 500 schools have applied for our support, and funding is the only thing holding us back from reaching more students.

  • Expanding Our Support to Two Years: Data from our 2024 Reignite Initiative confirms that schools need more time to build lasting reading habits. Remember, books are such a scarce resource that Chispa Libraries are new territory for students and teachers alike. Until now, we’ve provided 1 year of follow-up assistance after a library installation. Moving forward, we’re doubling that to 2 years to ensure lasting change through greater support and accountability. While this requires additional funding, we’re confident in making this commitment now because it is the best way to ensure the sustainability and impact of our libraries.

  • Growing Our Team: More libraries mean more hands on deck! We've hired 2 new library technicians to support this work load, and promoted Gleen to lead Special Projects—our initiative supporting partnerships with other literacy-focused organizations in Honduras. Our Special Projects Program doubled in size last year, and with Gleen at the helm, we’re excited to strengthen these vital collaborations.
